Water & Hygiene at Camp 1304H

Authentic. Safe. True to 1304 Hijri.

Camp 1304H recreates life in Najd as it was in 1304 Hijri (1887).

This means you will not find running water, modern bathrooms, or electricity at the camp or along the caravan route.

Instead, all water and hygiene practices follow the traditional methods used by Bedouins of the time, adapted for modern safety and guest comfort.

Water Use in 1304H

In 1304H (1887), water was carried, stored, and shared with intention.

At Camp 1304H:

  • All drinking water is filtered, cooled, and served in traditional leather or clay vessels.

  • Washing water is provided in basins using authentic hand-pouring methods.

  • Water is used sparingly and respectfully, reflecting real Bedouin tradition.

There are no taps and no plumbing in the 1304H world.

Hygiene Practices

Although the experience is historical, your safety is not.

We provide:

  • Traditional-style washing stations

  • Hand-pouring water jars

  • Sand-and-water cleansing techniques used historically

  • Modern-grade sanitary wipes, soaps, and cleansing tools are hidden and discreetly supplied by Time Guardians

  • Discreet nighttime waste management (no modern toilets visible, but entirely safe and managed by custodians)

Everything is designed to preserve immersion while ensuring cleanliness and comfort.

For Orientalist Guests (Weekdays)

Orientalist programs include additional hygiene considerations inspired by 19th-century Western field kits:

  • Era-appropriate wash basins

  • Discreet sanitization cloths

  • Traveler grooming tools

  • Linen refresh kits

  • Translator/Time Guardian guidance on hygiene customs of the era

These additions maintain immersion while respecting modern expectations.

What This Means for You

To stay aligned with the world of 1304H:

  • Expect limited water use

  • Expect simple, traditional washing methods

  • Expect no showers, taps, or running water

  • Expect clean, safe alternatives that are invisible to the 1304H narrative

Guests who join should be comfortable with a “historically grounded” style of hygiene: simple, minimal, respectful.

Why It Matters

Water scarcity shaped every part of Bedouin life.

By experiencing water the way they did, you step deeper into their world, and time travel becomes real.
